Evidence suggests that there are 5 steps you can take to improve your overall mental health and well-being.
- Connect (Spend time with others, make new bonds and spend time on naturing relationships)
- Be active (Find an activity you enjoy; evidence shows that improvement to your physical health will improve your overall mental health).
- Take notice (Put your phone away, be more self-aware of the present moment. The world around you, your own feelings, and thoughts in that moment)
- Keep learning (Learn new skills to boost your self-confidence)
- Give to others (Giving is not just for Christmas, something as simple as giving someone a smile can boost your self-esteem).
There are multiple ways that your well-being can be affected without you realising it. Ways in which can influence your body in a positive or negative light.
SafeWise believes that our well-being is all about balance, not ‘burning the candle at both ends’ having a PMA (positive mental attitude) and learning to be a better person overall.
Well-being falls under two categories:
Subjective well-being (personal well-being) asks people directly how they think and feel about their own well-being and includes aspects such as life satisfaction, positive emotions, and whether life is meaningful.
Objective well-being is based on assumptions of basic human needs and rights, Including aspects such as physical health, food, safety etc.
As an employer, you will also have an interest in making sure any sickness absence is minimised.
The HSE notes “A fitter, healthier, happier workforce can impact positively on productivity and prosperity. The society also benefits from a workforce concentrating on better health for themselves. In difficult economic times, safeguarding the health of the working-age population becomes even more critical.”
SafeWise understands that not every day will be a good day making sure you’re in the right frame of mind and understand how to notice the signs of when you become low and unmotivated. Being surrounded by positivity, and having the correct welfare both at home and at work is apparent.
